IBC-LEO brings home 3 board seats with National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials during National League of Cities 2023 City Summit in Atlanta, Georgia. - November 21, 2023

The Illinois Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (IBC-LEO) congratulates newly elected Executive Board Members of the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO),  Mayor Nathaniel George Booker (Maywood, IL) as 2nd Vice President, Mayor Katrina Thompson (Broadview, IL) as Parliamentarian, and Mayor Jada Curry as At-Large Board Member. Councilmember Chemberly Harris (Normal-IL) was elected Regional Director of the IL-6 District.

Established in 1970, the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO) is a constituency group within National League of Cities (NLC) that represents the interests of African America municipal officials and provides a forum to share ideas and develop leadership experience. One of NLC’s six constituency groups, National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO) brings together African American municipal leaders to network and share best practices.  

NBC-LEO President Denise Mitchell (College Park, MD) shared, As President, I am thrilled to serve with such an excellent group of committed officials. Our journey this year is poised to be extraordinary as we undertake a rebranding of NBC-LEO and actively engage in NLC's centennial celebration!”

We will spend this next year continuing to grow IBC-LEO which launched in September 2023, take NBC-LEO to new heights, and ensure our presence is felt more than ever for NLC.” said Mayor Nathaniel George Booker (Maywood, IL) who was reelected as a Board of Director for National League of Cities (NLC)

This year IBC-LEO will work NBC-LEO and NLC to advance the focus of Federal Advocacy in the areas of Community and Economic Development + Energy, Environment and Natural Resources + Finance, Administration and Intergovernmental Relations + Human Development + Information Technology and Communications + Public Safety & Crime Prevention + Transportation and Infrastructure Services.
