Illinois Black Elected Officials host Broken Communities Summit - October 21, 2023
On October 21, 2023, it was an amazing experience of Unity in the Community. Elected Officials from 4 legislative governing body levels of Illinois State, County, City of Chicago, and Municipalities from the South and West of the Chicago metropolitan area gathered to listen to residents and discuss solutions. Members of the Illinois Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials – IBC-LEO (Village of Maywood Mayor Nathaniel George Booker and Village of Robbins Mayor Darren E. Bryant), Chicago Aldermanic Black Caucus - CABC (Chair – Alderman Stephanie D. Coleman - 16th Ward and Alderwoman Monique L. Scott), Cook County 1st District Commissioner Tara Stamps and 4th District - Cook County Commissioner Stanley Moore, along with Illinois Legislative Black Caucus is Legislative Black Caucus (State Senator Lakesia Collins and Senator Willie Preston) all gathered with residents and organizations this past Saturday, at the Maywood Masonic Temple.
Our hearts and prayers are with the federal and international issues surrounding Israel, Ukraine, and the Migrant matters, but this summit was about local issues that have plagued underserved and disadvantaged communities for decades. The Broken Communities Summit covered solutions and concerns surrounding Education, Housing, Infrastructure, Public Safety, Economics, Healthcare, and Social Justice.
This is the 1st meeting of many that will be hosted focusing on solutions that we all can achieve through policy, process, intention, and love. Stay updated by signing up at bit.ly/weneedsolutions2023
